Older Hearne Homes and Aging Pipe
The median Hearne home was built around 1970. Nearly 29% of Hearne’s housing stock dates to the 1970s. Those homes were built with galvanized steel supply lines, cast iron drain stacks, and original hose bibs and shutoff valves. All of it has now been in service for more than fifty years.
1970s Construction Materials
Galvanized steel supply lines corrode from the inside out, slowly narrowing the bore. Cast iron drain stacks crack and scale. Original shutoff valves seize and hose bibs fail quietly over decades of use.
Symptoms to Watch For
Falling pressure at the furthest fixture, or rusty water on the first draw of the day. Slow tub drains that will not respond to basic clearing, and shutoff valves that will not close all the way. These are all signs aging pipe is reaching the end of its useful life.
Repair or Repipe: Honest Advice
4L repairs and repiping both. We always quote the repair option alongside replacement. You can then weigh the cost against the expected remaining life of the existing pipe, and make the call that makes sense for your budget.
We do not push full replacements on homes that still have serviceable pipe. If a targeted repair buys another ten to fifteen good years, we will tell you that. You get the price in writing before any work begins.
Hearne Water and Why Your Fixtures Show It
Hearne is served entirely by groundwater drawn from the Simsboro Sand formation of the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer. That is one of the deepest and most heavily used aquifers in Central Texas. What is happening underground shows up at your fixtures.
Falling Aquifer Levels
City Well Number 4 dropped approximately 81 feet between 1999 and 2023. As wells go deeper and the distribution system ages, sediment and mineral deposits become more common at the fixture. They clog aerators, wear down shower cartridges, foul toilet fill valves, and coat water heater elements.
Fixture-Level Deposits
Sediment and mineral buildup at the fixture shows up in several ways. Reduced flow at faucets with clogged aerators, and failed shower cartridges that no longer regulate temperature. Toilet fill valves that run continuously, and water heater elements that burn out early or lose efficiency. These are maintenance items, not full replacements, when caught early.
Boil Water Notices: What to Do After
Hearne has experienced boil water notices during system stress events. After Winter Storm Uri, a main break triggered a notice across much of the city. On June 11, 2025, a six-inch main broke on Riley Street, prompting another notice. These events push sediment and debris into the distribution lines and into your home’s plumbing.
After any boil water notice is lifted, flush your lines for several minutes. Remove and clean all aerators, and check your water heater for sediment accumulation. If flow or pressure doesn’t return to normal after flushing, call us.
If you are concerned about water quality at your faucet, 4L can install whole-home filtration or a point-of-use system sized to your household’s needs.

Found late Friday evening that I did not have hot water, and it was the weekend... YIKES!! Contacted 4L Contracting LLC; they came out within a couple of hours and had me working in a short time. Lee went above and beyond, letting me know about other problems identified in my attic, a problem with my chimney, and a heating vent installation problem. After he left, I found a water leak in the laundry room ceiling. He turned around and came back to my house. He found the air conditioning drain pipe was backed up. He blew it out the drain pipe, preventing a big disaster. So appreciate his thoroughness and helping me on a Friday after-hours house call. He definitely went above and beyond.
I had a great experience working with 4L Contracting LLC. They were awesome to work with, they were professional, responsive, and clearly knew what they were doing. We had a massive leak that needed immediate attention, and they showed up quickly and handled it efficiently. They not only fixed the issue fast but also made sure everything was done right. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing reliable, high quality work!
Used 4L Contracting the first time a couple years ago and since then they have replaced a water heater, reset toilets, replaced water lines, and located and fixed a leak under the house! They have been amazing to work with over the years, I cannot recommend these guys enough!
Water Softener installation Completed! Just wanted to give a shout out to Kurt and Lane on their outstanding customer service today. I hired 4L Contracting LLC to install a water softener in our home. After finding out the water softener I had purchased was missing parts, the job was rescheduled for Monday. I was able to return the water softener and get a replacement fairly quick. So I sent a text to Kurt, letting him know I had done so. He informed me they were nearby and could do the job in about 30 minutes if I could meet them back at my home. I hurried home and in about 2 hours the job was completed. Tonight my wife and I shall enjoy a soft water shower!
My husband and I had a broken pipe in the foundation and it was leaking pretty bad into our hallway, and 4L Contracting came that day we called, assessed the issue, and was back the next day and completely fixed the problem. They were so nice and helpful! I cannot tell you how pleased we were with their service. I recommend 4L Contracting!
My wife and I discovered a water leak coming out of our wall. 4L Contracting LLC came out that day and found where the leak was coming from (copper pipe leaking in the slab), they started working immediately and finished the next day.
These plumbers are honest, knowledgeable and reliable! They helped us fix a leak and answered all our questions about other issues in the house. Highly recommend!
Lee and his guys are Great. Their communication on our projects have been superb! Always letting us know when they will be at the job site. Lee is doing 3 projects for our Airbnb's at one time, and his organization of his paperwork is paramount for us.

Septic and Sewer in Robertson County
Robertson County adopted a new On-Site Sewage Facility (OSSF) order effective September 1, 2025, and permitted work for new and altered systems carries a county permit fee. Properties outside the Hearne city sewer boundary are on septic, and any permitted work requires compliance with the updated order.
County Permit Compliance
4L works with Robertson County permitting on OSSF projects. We handle the paperwork alongside the plumbing so your project is done legally and inspected correctly.
Camera Inspection and Line Locating
We camera-inspect sewer lines and use electronic locating equipment. That finds exactly where a blockage or break is before any digging starts, saving time and avoiding unnecessary excavation.
Sewer Line Repair and Replacement
It might be a targeted repair of a cracked section, or a full sewer line replacement from the house to the street or tank. We quote both options and explain which one makes sense for your situation.
Cleanout Installation
Older Robertson County homes often lack accessible cleanouts, making drain clearing difficult and expensive. We add cleanouts at key points so future maintenance is fast and affordable.
Not sure whether your property is on city sewer or septic? We can help you determine that before any work starts. We will also advise you on what the updated Robertson County OSSF order requires for your situation.
