Repiping is the second thing Smithville searches for after water heaters, and the reason is sitting in the ground under the town. Smithville incorporated in 1895. It spent nearly fifty years as the largest town in Bastrop County, built around the Missouri, Kansas and Texas railroad shops established in 1894. A town with that history has a lot of housing that predates modern plumbing materials.

What Smithville Housing Is Actually Made Of

The town is older than the materials. Smithville incorporated in 1895 around railroad shops built the year before. Housing from that era and the decades after it was plumbed in galvanized steel, and a lot of it still is. Galvanized does not fail dramatically. It closes up from the inside across a decade, until a new shower head makes it obvious. By then the whole run is the same age.
Then there is the 1980s and 1990s layer. Bastrop County took a lot of building in the polybutylene years. Gray plastic pipe, crimped fittings, and a material that fails at the joints and degrades along its whole length. On a Smithville property that matters at the point of sale as much as at the point of failure. Carriers ask what the supply lines are made of. The answer can change what a policy costs, or whether one is offered at all. Ask yours before you commit either way, and ask us for the documentation if the pipe is coming out.

Well Water Changes the Calculation
Outside the city limits most property here runs on a private well. That matters for repiping in a way it does not in town.
Well water is untreated. Whatever mineral content and sediment the aquifer delivers arrives at your pipe, and it keeps arriving after we have replaced everything. Putting a new system in without looking at what is feeding it is how you end up doing the same work again. It comes round sooner than it should. So on a well property we look at treatment as part of the conversation, rather than as an afterthought. We say plainly when we think it is worth it, and when it is not.
The other well difference is diagnostic. On a city supply we prove a leak by shutting everything off and watching the meter. On a well there is no meter. What replaces it is the pressure tank. Water Softener installation Completed! Just wanted to give a shout out to Kurt and Lane on their outstanding customer service today. I hired 4L Contracting LLC to install a water softener in our home. After finding out the water softener I had purchased was missing parts, the job was rescheduled for Monday. I was able to return the water softener and get a replacement fairly quick. So I sent a text to Kurt, letting him know I had done so. He informed me they were nearby and could do the job in about 30 minutes if I could meet them back at my home. I hurried home and in about 2 hours the job was completed. Tonight my wife and I shall enjoy a soft water shower!

How a Smithville Repipe Runs
